A couple and their animals are safe following a house fire on Monday afternoon. However, the home is a total loss.
“My parents just lost their home to a house fire,” a family member posted on social media.
Meridian Fire Department was dispatched to the home around 2 p.m. and immediately requested mutual aid from the Guthrie, Woodcrest, Sooner, and Coyle fire departments.
Heartland Medical Direction provided medical attention at the scene.
Smoke and flames consumed the home as fire crews attacked the fire but were unable to save the home.
The homeowners escaped their residence with only the clothes on their backs.
“Everyone got out safe,” the family member said including the cat. However, the dog, a Great Pyrenees and Labrador mix ran from the house.
The American Red Cross was at the home and is providing immediate assistance.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
