Breaking 8:20 p.m. Wednesday – The missing hospital cross that was reported stolen has been found at a OKC scrapyard.
Original Story
A 5,200-pound steel cross belonging to a Guthrie hospital has gone missing from a sign shop.
On July 6 the cross was removed the “old hospital” Logan County Memorial Hospital, located on 19th and Warner, to be restored from its original state. The plan was to then install the cross at Mercy Hospital Logan County. The cross was a gift to Mercy from the Sam Coury family, owners of the Logan County Memorial Hospital building.
“That cross means a lot to the people of Logan County. It’s hard to understand why someone would want to steal something that has such emotional value to so many in our community,” Josh Tucker, administrator of Mercy Hospital Logan County, said in a statement.
The unnamed south Oklahoma City sign shop managers believe the eight-foot cross was stolen on Saturday.
Anyone with information on the cross is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-632-TIPS, or text them at 405-415-5666. You can also report it anonymously at www.okccrimetips.com.
I wonder how many people would care about this building or the cross if they knew about the child abuse that happened there when it was a shelter for troubled teens? Here is my article I wrote about it. http://itwasnotmysin.wordpress.com/2012/08/02/shelterabuse/
