House fire on Guthrie’s east side leaves home heavily damaged, dog rescued

A two-story home on Guthrie’s east side was heavily damaged by fire Saturday afternoon.

The Guthrie Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 600 block of North Elm after reports of heavy smoke and flames coming from the residence.

Guthrie Police officers were first on scene and confirmed active fire conditions upon arrival at around 4:15 p.m.

Initial information indicated no people were inside the home at the time of the fire, but a dog was believed to still be inside. Firefighters entered the residence with heavy fire showing near the front of the home, while thick smoke quickly filled the structure.

The home appears to be a total loss. The exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

During the response, a firefighter was able to locate and remove the dog from the home.

Life-saving measures were immediately initiated, including the administration of oxygen. Officials said the dog gradually became more responsive but continued to require oxygen support. An officer contacted an emergency veterinarian in Stillwater.

The homeowners arrived on scene a short time later and transported the dog to Stillwater for further care.

Guthrie fire crews were assisted by Oak Cliff, Sooner, Coyle, and Crescent fire departments.

No injuries to firefighters were reported.
