A house fire has claimed the life of one person following a house fire on Guthrie’s west side of town on Tuesday afternoon.
The Oklahoma State Fire Marshal’s Office, along with the Medical Examiner’s Office, are en route to a house located at 1120 W. Washington.
Steve Allen Mead, 59, died of smoke inhalation and thermal burns, and his manner of death was an accident according to the medical examiner’s office.
The fire broke out shortly before 2 p.m. and within moments two police officers arrived onto the scene. Both attempted to enter the house, but the smoke was simply to thick. Photo Gallery
The Guthrie Fire Department worked quickly to extinguish the flames. Crescent, Coyle and Woodcrest fire fighters also responded to the scene.
A subsequent investigation, conducted by GFD Lt. Ryan Reeves and State Fire Marshal’s Agent Anthony Reed, was unable to pinpoint the exact cause of the fire.
