Update — The highway was opened back up to traffic just before 7 p.m.
Original Story
Multiple fire departments were dispatched to Highway 105 after a hay bale caught fire, which led to a semi-truck also catching fire. The highway has been shut down to all traffic.
The semi-truck was hauling approximately 50 hay bales on Highway 105 when he noticed a bale had caught fire between Post Rd. and Douglas Rd. The driver attempted to extinguish the flames, but was unable to do so. The driver then pulled over on the side of the highway and unhitched the trailer from the truck. However, a hay bale fell onto the truck causing it to also go up in flames.
The driver was able to escape safely.
The call came in at 2:29 p.m. and fire crews from Guthrie, Sooner, Meridian and Coyle remained on scene extinguish the flames.
The highway is expected to be closed until at least 7 p.m.
