Ice Storm Warning issued for Logan County

Updated on Jan. 12 at 3 p.m.: The National Weather Service has issued an ICE STORM WARNING from 6 am Friday to 6 am Sunday for Logan County.

Ice accumulations of one-quarter to a half inch with the heaviest accumulations expected Saturday. Winds are expected out of the north at 10 mph.

The anticipated ice could cause power outages and hazardous road conditions, especially on Friday into early Saturday. Related article: Pending weather: Priority list for sanding city roads

Gov. Mary Fallin has declared a state of emergency because of the approaching storm.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Logan County. The incoming storm could bring ice accumulation and hazardous road conditions.

The watch is in effect beginning on Friday morning through early Sunday morning for northern and central Oklahoma. Parts of the state will likely be upgraded to a warning at some point.

Early reports indicate over one-quarter of freezing rain/sleet (ice) accumulation is possible, which may be enough to cause power outages.

NWS says not everyone in the watch is going to get an ice storm. Some will get just a little bit of ice that could cause travel issues, others could get enough ice to bring down trees and power lines.

The weather service also added, “The watch is not a guarantee this is going to happen, but gives everyone time to make sure they are ready in case it happens.”
