Ilame Smith signs with Rose State College for wrestling

Guthrie High School senior Ilame Smith signed to continue her wrestling career at Rose State College on Tuesday inside the Guthrie High School library. She was joined by family, coaches, teammates, and friends for the celebration.

Smith, a standout for the Lady Bluejays, placed second at Regionals this past season, qualifying for the state tournament.

Rose State College announced in November 2025 the expansion of its athletics program, including the return of men’s wrestling and the addition of women’s wrestling, as well as men’s and women’s cross country, all set to begin competition in the fall of 2026.

“This is an exciting step forward for Rose State College,” said Travis Hurst. “Expanding our athletic programs not only enhances our campus life but also provides more students with the chance to pursue their academic and athletic goals close to home.”

Women’s wrestling is one of the fastest-growing collegiate sports in the nation, with both the NJCAA and NAIA recognizing the sport in recent years. The addition of women’s wrestling and cross country reflects Rose State’s mission to provide inclusive opportunities that meet student interest and regional growth in athletics.

“We’re excited to introduce these new programs and bring back men’s wrestling,” said Coty Cooper. “Our goal is to create a well-rounded athletic department that supports both team and individual sports, while maintaining a strong focus on academics and character.”
