Investigation continues after fatal ultralight aircraft crash

A fatal aircraft crash occurred Monday evening, June 30, near Broadway Road and Seward Road on Mason Street in Logan County.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the incident was reported at 8:54 p.m. involving a RAN S-14 ultralight aircraft operated by Terry McBride, a 63-year-old male from Guthrie.

McBride was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Guthrie Fire Department at 9:15 p.m.

The cause of the crash is currently under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). The condition of the operator at the time of the incident also remains under investigation.

According to a news report by KOCO, The RAN S-14 is an experimental aircraft commonly assembled from kits.

It was not immediately known how the plane in the crash was built. However, a family member of the previous owner says the plane was “RANS factory built.”

Eric Muehlberg, head of the local chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), stated that while the plane is similar in size to an ultralight aircraft, the specific model involved in Monday’s crash had been FAA-approved in December 2024 and required a pilot’s license to operate.

Emergency personnel responded swiftly to the scene, and federal authorities are now leading the investigation to determine the cause of the crash. No further injuries were reported.

Updates will be provided as more information becomes available from the FAA and NTSB.
