Guthrie alum and Oklahoma State Cowboys third baseman Jacob Chappell was voted as the top freshmen at Oklahoma State for all sports in the 2014-15 season according to a website that follows Cowboy athletics. Now, he’s receiving votes for the Best Overall Cowboy.
The website, Cowboys Ride For Free, took votes for the best in the defensive, offensive, senior and freshman categories. While Chappell took the freshmen category, basketball stand-out Le’Bryan Nash won the offensive award, defensive lineman Emmanuel Ogbah was chosen as the defensive winner and left-handed pitcher Michael Freeman captured the top senior award.
All four winners, along with Cowboys quarterback Mason Rudolph (bonus) are now vying for the Best Overall Cowboy. Vote for your choice.
As a true freshmen, Chappell started in 55 of the 58 games the Cowboys and averaged .250 at the plate with 21 RBI and scoring 33 runs. His on base percentage was a solid .400 and was 100 percent when stealing bases (6-6). Chappell had the second most assists on the defensive end on the team with 123. He was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman team.
