The Guthrie BlueJay cross country team was not a gracious host in the annual Cottonwood Classic after earning the team victory in the Class 5A and below run. Both the Jays and Lady Jays finished with two top 10 placers.
The Jays earned a team low 58 points to win the team race. Heritage Hall finished runner up with 69 points.
Leading the way for the Jays was Tommy Beauchamp with a sixth place finish with a time of 10:32 in the two-mile run. Connor Self was the second BlueJay to cross the line in a time of 10:56 and good for 10th overall.
Dakota Pruitt finished 15th (11:08), 16th place was Ryan McIntire (11:11) and finishing 17th was Hunter Stephens (11:11).
In the junior varsity race, head coach Clay Tarter was pleased with senior Tyler Porter, who competed for the first time for the program. He finished third with a time of 12:29.
The Lady Jays had two runners compete and in no surprise sophomore Lexi Hastings finished near the top. Hastings finished second overall with a time of 12:52. Also, finishing in the medal category was Aylin Paez after a time 13:40 and good for ninth.
The annual run had a total eight races from Class 6A to junior high races.
