The BlueJay baseball program needed to make a statement this week and they responded with four wins in as many tries with wins over Classen and Del City to end the week after posting wins over Harrah and Shawnee in the beginning of the week.

Thursday evening Guthrie needed five innings to run-rule Class 4A Classen, 15-0, and needed another five innings to run-rule Del City, on the road, 17-2. The Jays have now totaled 13 run-rule wins and are 19-7 heading into a beefy schedule this upcoming week.
The 19-7 record will be how other 5A coaches will rank the Jays and all other 5A schools for the post season regionals come May. The Jays appear to be a lock for the fourth and final hosting spot, but have a big argument for the third overall seed from the West.
Junior Hayden Seifert needed just one inning of work to collect his fourth win on the year as Guthrie head coach Jon Chappell used a different pitcher each of the five inning’s. Seifert improves to 4-1 as Evan Plagg, Kasey Gates, Hunter Gates, and Dusty Cotton each saw time on the bump. The five pitchers combined for 13 of the 15 outs via the strike out.
The Jays offense was balance with 10 players collecting at least one hit. Freshmen Reed Roberts and Kasey Gates each added two hits. Roberts also collected three RBIs while Landry Chappell added two.
In the win over Del City, Roberts collected a team best sixth win on the hill by pitching all five innings. Roberts (6-2) allowed just four hits as the Eagles plated two in their final at bat after the Jays erupted for 10 runs in the fifth inning.
In the fourth inning and Guthrie leading 5-0, sophomore Bryan connected for his team high sixth home run this season to give his squad a 7-0 cushion. Guthrie, with a 7-0 lead, put the 10 spot in the top half of the inning by collecting 9 hits, including doubles from Jacob Chappell, Luke Davis, Scott Pickle, and Seifert. Landry Chappell and Pickle each posted three RBIs with six Jays collecting at least two RBIs.
On the season, Guthrie improves to 2-3 against 6A schools to go along with a 7-3 5A record, 6-1 against 4A opponents, 2-0 versus 3A, and 1-0 against both 2A and independent teams.
Up next on the schedule are the second ranked Deer Creek Antlers on Monday before taking part in the four-day Deer Creek tournament, where the Jays will play Edmond North, El Reno, and Westmoore in pool play.
