Jays outlast Lawton Mac, 21-9, in regionals

Pitchers had a tough day during the game between Guthrie and Lawton Mac in the first game of the Class 5A Guthrie Regional. The two teams put up 30 runs combined in a 21-9 Bluejays win.

Guthrie Baseball LogoThere were 31 hits, including 11 extra base hits in the game.

Bluejays’ bats came to life in the first inning. Lawton Mac had no answer as Bluejays scored 15 runs. Guthrie scored in the first on an RBI single by Reed Roberts, an RBI single by Grant Towler, a walk by Camden Wilcott, a walk by Zane Maltz, a hit by pitch, an RBI single by Donovan Jordan, a steal of home by Zane, a steal of home by Beau Davis, a walk by Rowdy Reihs, a steal of home by Jacob Chappell, an RBI double by Blaze Hastings, a two-run double by Grant, an RBI single by Zane, and an RBI single by Jacob.

Chappell was perfect at the dish, going 2-2.

Reihs recorded the win for Jays. He tossed one inning of shutout ball. He struck out two, walked none and surrendered no hits.

Guthrie pounded Lawton Mac pitching, as eight hitters combined for 15 hits, 13 RBIs and 15 runs scored.

Mason Chaster couldn’t get it done on the mound for Lawton Mac, taking a loss. He allowed 10 runs in five innings, walked three and struck out three.

Bluejays closer Zane put away the final three outs to record the save.

Bluejays piled on three more runs in the top of the third. Beau’s double got things going, plating Zane. That was followed up by Patrick Richardson’s single, scoring Jordan.
