Jays season ends in Lawton with first round blowout

Lawton MacArthur showed why they are the best in Class 5A and are the favorites to win the gold ball in three weeks. The Highlanders scored on their first seven possessions to end Guthrie’s season.

Mac improved to 11-0 and remains the only undefeated team in Class 5A after a 50-0 win. The Jays, who played in their 12 straight first round playoff game, ended their season at 6-5.

The Highlander won the coin toss and elected to take the ball first on offense. They quickly stampeded 70 yards for their first score. On their next possession it took one pass play of 84 yards and the rout was on.

In the first half, Mac piled up 297 yards with several short fields to work with, including 179 in the air and 118 on the ground. Meanwhile, the Bluejays managed a total of 41 yards, which seven yards came on the ground.

In the four quarters of action, the Jays offense never threatened to put points on the scoreboard.

The Jays finished with four turnovers.
