Juaquin Ramirez was nominated and selected as the October Student of the Month for Guthrie Public Schools. The character trait selected for this month was responsibility.
“Please know that Juaquin has many more positive character traits, including being a polite, attentive and respectful young man,” Guthrie Junior High School teacher Sharon Cochrane who nominated Juaquin for the award.
Juaquin is an eighth-grade student who likes playing baseball and video games and enjoys reading.
“(He) is a quiet young man and I believe he is a perfect example of the saying ‘actions speak louder than words,’” Cochrane said. “His responsible actions speak loudly for his apparent desire to learn and to honor his parents’ wishes.”
Juaquin is the last student to leave his third hour reading class each day because “he takes the time to pack up his backpack, placing his learning materials in the correct folder and his earbuds in the right spot.”
Juaquin was presented by Blake Wimsey with Foundation Insurance at Monday night’s Board of Education meeting.
GPS and Wimsey (pictured right) have teamed up for the fourth straight year to honor students for the character traits. Teachers and faculty select students who have displayed behavior deserving of recognition.
For Juaquin’s efforts, he was presented with a $65 gift card to Stacy’s Place.
