The Guthrie Junior High softball season has been an early success and it was highlighted this weekend with a tournament championship.
The Jays defeated the top seed OKC Bronchos, 9-6, en route to the Kingfisher Tournament championship game. In the finals, Guthrie had no problem with an 11-0 win over Piedmont. The championship marks th second year in a row the Jays have won the tourney.
Trista LeGrande was the winning pitcher in the finals while Madison Dutton took control of the offense by going 2-2 with a double and triple to go along with a game high four RBIs.
Prior to the finals, LeGrande (3-1) and Hanna Dean (3-0) got wins in the circle while Dutton was an outstanding 9-for-12 that included five doubles.
Guthrie is coached by Sondra Danner and Cass Brassard.
The Lady Jays will finish the month with games on Monday and Tuesday when they host El Reno and travel to Shawnee on Tuesday. Game times are set for 5:00.
