Guthrie Junior High School’s volleyball team hosted Carl Albert on Tuesday for their home opener, marking the third year of the program under Head Coach Aushleana Boykin.
The Lady Jays faced a tough challenge in the Titans, with three matches played, including an exhibition, seventh-grade, and eighth-grade game.
In the exhibition match, Carl Albert won both sets with scores of 15-25 and 19-25. The second set was particularly exciting as Guthrie trailed 17-11 before Hadley Timmons led a thrilling comeback, scoring seven straight serves to give the Lady Jays an 18-17 lead. However, Carl Albert rallied to secure the win.
The seventh-grade game saw Carl Albert dominate with scores of 6-25 and 5-25. In the eighth-grade match, Guthrie showed resilience by winning the first set 25-20, but Carl Albert responded by taking the next two sets to win the match.
The Lady Jays will look to bounce back as they travel to Shawnee for their next game on Thursday.
