He was a big part in helping turn the Guthrie Wrestling program around and now he will take over as the Bluejays head coach.
Stevens takes over for Jack O’Connor, who resigned his post to spend more time with his family. O’Connor, who coached at Guthrie for 20 seasons, will continue his teaching duties in the school system.
Stevens came from the prestigious Perry High School wrestling program. He teaches Personal Finance and Career Choices at Guthrie High School.
The Guthrie Board of Education is expected to approve the hire at the next board meeting.
All three winter sports teams (wrestling, boys and girls basketball) will all have new head coaches. However, all three have been in the school system as teachers and coaches.
Pete Papahronis accepted the Lady Jays basketball job and Tim Flanigan was named the boys basketball coach.
