Kansas teen killed in I-35 crash near Guthrie

A 19-year-old Kansas man was killed Tuesday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 35 near Guthrie, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The fatal collision occurred at 2:44 p.m. on Tuesday, at mile marker 156 (Industrial Road) on I-35 southbound in Logan County.

Authorities say Joshua C. Hicks, of Manhattan, Kansas, was driving a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee when the vehicle left the roadway. Hicks was pronounced dead at the scene by Guthrie EMS and was transported to the Oklahoma State Medical Examiner’s Office in Oklahoma City.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but motorists at the scene reported they saw a tire striking the vehicle which may have been a contributing factor in the vehicle veering off the road, through a tree line and gate, before coming to a rest in a field.

However, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol has not yet determined an exact cause and continues its investigation.

Troopers confirmed that a seatbelt was in use and airbags deployed in the vehicle.

No other vehicles have been identified in connection with the crash at this time.
