Kara Tarrant is expected to be named the next head coach of the Guthrie Lady Jays softball team. Tarrant, who has been a vital part of the program for 12 seasons as an assistant coach, steps into the role following the departure of Booker Blakley.
The Guthrie Board of Education will meet on Monday, June 10, where Tarrant is expected to be formally named the next coach.
Blakley, who guided Guthrie to remarkable success over his six-season tenure, recently accepted the head coaching position at Bethany High School. Under his leadership, the Bluejays reached the state championship game this past season. They made four state tournament appearances in the last six years, solidifying their reputation as one of the premier programs in the state.
Tarrant’s promotion is seen as a seamless transition for a team that has thrived under a strong coaching framework. Her experience and familiarity with the players and the program’s culture make her an ideal fit for maintaining and building upon the team’s success.
The Guthrie High School softball coaching staff, with Tarrant’s significant contributions, was honored as the 2023 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Summer/Fall Regional Coaching Staff of the Year, a testament to their excellence and impact on the sport.
As the new season approaches, Tarrant will focus on leveraging the team’s recent successes and fostering a competitive and cohesive squad ready to compete for state titles.
