Guthrie High School senior Kate Jaena will continue her cheer career at the collegiate level after signing with Missouri Southern State University.
Jaena, the senior captain of the Lady Jays cheer team, officially signed during a ceremony held inside the GHS library this past week, surrounded by family, teammates, friends, and school staff.
She will cheer on the Lions’ athletic programs in Joplin as part of Missouri Southern’s spirit squad.
Guthrie cheer coach Pam Johnson Fields praised Jaena’s accomplishment.
“Congratulations to our senior captain, Kate, for signing at MSSU! We’re so proud of you!!” Fields said.
Jaena will join a program led by head spirit squad coach Kristen Hermann, who took over the role in August 2025.
