The Guthrie Kiwanis Christmas TV Auction was scheduled for nine hours, but there were simply too many items and too many bids to allow the live auction to stay within the time frame. The huge undertaking helped raised several thousands of dollars for children in Guthrie.
Inside Guthrie City Hall, Kiwanis members auctioned off over 400 items from a recliner to gift certificates to dental implants as audience members raised their hands as the phones were ringing off the hook from the television and internet viewing audience.
“It’s for the kids,” was often heard from the auctioneers as they attempted to raise bids.
Major League Baseball hall of famer and former Guthrie resident Ferguson Jenkins stopped by and encouraged the audience to continue to support the Kiwanis effort. The tall right-hander shared how he was a Kiwanis member and helped support his town where he grew up in Canada.
The biggest fundraiser for the Kiwanis will help students with scholarships, coats, shoes and several programs.
