For the second year in a row The Kiwanis Club of Guthrie is sponsoring a fast moving, white knuckle race down Oklahoma Ave on Friday, April 1889ers Week Celebration. Price Purvis, Kiwanis past president has been organizing the event with the help of other Kiwanis members.

GUTHRIE MOTORCYCLE CLUBPrice noted, “It is a natural event for the Kiwanis to sponsor since our primary focus as a club is to enhance the quality of life experienced by the children of our community. This should be a fun event with each participant receiving a token of their achievement and success.”

“On top of that it is all free!” The first heat begins at 5PM when Oklahoma Avenue, between 1st Street and 2nd  Street will be turned into the race track for these big wheels. There is no sign up required and the “Big Wheels” are furnished by the club. The race is open to all youngsters ages 3-7 and the “heats” are by age. There is, however, a rumor spreading that there may be an “adult category” of the race with the Mayor challenging the Territorial Governor to a race to the finish —– but of course that is only a rumor,” Price concluded with.

Steve Gentling, ‘89er Committee Chairman commented, “Friday is a big day in Celebration Week with the Carnival in full gear, all the 80+ food and craft vendors set up and ready to serve, the Rotary sponsored FREE “Gassers, Geezers, and Hawgs “ classic car show also on Oklahoma Avenue and “The Best “ FREE street dance starting at 7PM also on Oklahoma.
