Lady Jays drop season opener in El Reno

The Guthrie Lady Jays basketball team started the new season on the road and struggled to find points in a 33-27 setback to El Reno.

The 18th ranked Lady Jays were unable to score more than 8-points in any of the four quarters, but in return kept the Lady Indians under double digits in three of the four quarters.

For El Reno it was their fifth game of the season and are now 2-3 overall.

After a 6-6 first quarter tie, El Reno opened the game by doubling up Guthrie (14-7) to take a 27-19 halftime lead. Guthrie pulled within four-points (31-27) when Mikaela Murrilo sank a jump shot with 32 seconds left, but could not get any closer.

Murillo led the way in the scoring department with 14 points.

Guthrie will be back on the road, Friday, when they travel to Piedmont for a 6:30 tip before opening the home portion of the season on the following Tuesday. Both games will be broadcasted on Triple Play Sports Radio 105.1 Fm and on Guthrie Sports Page beginning at 6:15.
