Lady Jays fall 1-0 to Pryor in State tournament

Freshmen pitcher Karrah Dean struck out 10 Pryor hitters in the first round of the state softball tournament while pitching out of several jams. The work load was not quite good enough as Pryor scored the lone run of the game in the bottom of the ninth inning.

The Guthrie Lady Jays softball team was back in the state tournament for the first time since 1998 and at the same time was looking to redeem a 2-1 eight inning loss to Pryor back on Aug. 27.

The game was highlighted with two freshmen pitching in the circle. Along with Dean, Olivia Rains proved her worth by striking out 11 Jays hitters and not allowing a runner past second base inside ASA Hall of Fame Stadium.

The Lady Jays managed only three hits off the University of Oklahoma commit. Freshmen Taylor Bolding got the first hit for the Jays in the second, senior Trista LeGrande singled in the third and Dean in the top of the ninth.

Guthrie had chances to put runs on the board, but left six runners on base.

Pryor started the last inning off with two base hits and had runners on second and third with nobody out. Dean fired back by striking out the next two hitters. Next, with two outs, a ground ball was fielded by third baseman Hannah Dean, but her throw was not handled at first base allowing Pryor’s Rains to cross the plate for the win.

Guthrie ends their season at 21-16.
