The Guthrie softball team is riding a seven game winning streak and a 9-1 record. The Lady Jays will be challenged this week with several state tournament caliber teams.
Guthrie was a perfect 4-0 this past weekend in the Perry Tournament with wins over Millwood (7-5), Blackwell (3-1), Piedmont JV (9-1) and Ponca City (5-1).
The championship game with Glenpool was canceled due to heavy rains.
Sophomore Hannah Dean collected two wins in the circle while younger sister Karrah Dean picked up the two other wins over the three day tournament.
The Lady Jays got their payback on Blackwell, who is the only team to take down the Jays this season, on the first day in dramatic fashion.
Blackwell broke a scoreless game in the fifth and final inning with a run (1-0). Down to their final out with two runners on base, freshmen Karrah Dean delivered a walk-off double for the win.
On Monday in Oklahoma City, Guthrie needed five innings to run-rule Northwest Classen 10-0. Seniors Trista LeGrande and Madison Dutton belted three hits each.
Karrah Dean is off to a blistering start in the first 10 games of her varsity career with three homeruns, 16 RBI’s while batting .571. Inside the circle she has allowed only three hits in four outings, including two no-hitters against district opponents Capitol Hill and Southeast.
Dutton, a shortstop, is complimenting the offense with her team high 18 hits and .643 batting average.
Hannah Dean is 5-1 inside the circle with an inferior earned run average of .630.
With a 4-0 district record, Guthrie travels to Carl Albert (7-1, 6-0) on Tuesday for a marquee district showdown between the two unbeaten 5A-1 teams.
Later this week, beginning on Thursday, Guthrie will compete in the loaded Shawnee Tournament. The Jays will take on high quality 5A teams in Coweta (10-3), Pryor (10-2) and Durant (4-1).
District Standings as of Aug. 24.
