The Guthrie Lady Jays softball team has faced a challenging opening to the 2025 season, sitting at 2-9 overall, but their record reflects a schedule stacked with tough competition.
The Jays opened the year 0-4 against strong Class 5A contenders—Tahlequah, Claremore, Pryor—and Class 6A’s Edmond Memorial, all capable of making state tournament runs.
Offensively, Guthrie has struggled to find consistent production, scoring only 15 runs across nine games, outside of two high-scoring outings against the OKC Broncos (16-6) and El Reno (11-6).
This past weekend, the Lady Jays competed in the Norman Tournament, dropping all four contests to Southmoore (8-4), Piedmont (5-1), Bridge Creek (1-0), and Elgin (7-6).
However, there’s a bright spot for Guthrie—district play.
The Lady Jays remain unbeaten in District 5A-2 with a 1-0 record, joining Midwest City (2-0) and Carl Albert (2-0) atop the standings. Guthrie has hosted regionals the past four seasons and is working to keep that streak alive.
The team is led by head coach Kara Tarrant, now in her second year at the helm after 12 seasons as an assistant coach.
Guthrie travels to El Reno on Tuesday for a 5 p.m. first pitch as they attempt to sweep the Indians in district play. The Lady Jays will then compete in the Bethany Tournament, with expected matchups against Crossings Christian, Pauls Valley, and the OKC Broncos.
