Beaumont, TX – Langston fell to 1-3 after suffering a 31-0 defeat at the hands of the Lamar Cardinals Saturday night at Provost Umphrey Stadium.  Lamar wide receiver Kevin Johnson scored three touchdowns to pace the Cardinals.  Transfer running back Herschel Sims added 47 yards on the ground on 10 carries.

Lamar got off to a quick start with a 70-yard return on the opening kickoff, and wasted no time putting the first points on the board as Sims scored on a 4-yard run only 36 seconds into the game.  Lamar scored again midway through the first quarter to take a quick 14-0 lead.

The Lions struggled to get started offensively, but threatened early in the second quarter on a drive led by quarterback Brendan Crawford.  However, running back Will Taylor fumbled at the 2-yard line and Lamar recovered.

Langston will host Southern Nazarene on September 29that 7 p.m.
