Langston to play for NAIA national championship Tuesday night

Langston University is one win away from a national title.

The Lions have advanced to the championship game of the NAIA Men’s Basketball National Championship for the second time in three seasons and will face Freed-Hardeman University Tuesday night in Kansas City.

Langston earned its spot in the title game with a thrilling 72-69 overtime victory over Ave Maria University in the semifinal round, punching its ticket to the “Battle for the Red Banner.”

The championship matchup is set for 7 p.m. inside Municipal Auditorium.

The game can be viewed online on the Urban Edge Network.

The game will also serve as a rematch of the 2024 national championship, where Langston fell just short in a 71-67 loss to Freed-Hardeman. In that contest, the Lions held a 67-66 lead with just 40 seconds remaining before the title slipped away.

Now, Langston returns to the national stage with another opportunity to capture the program’s first NAIA championship.
