LCSO investigating shooting; one person dead

Updated on Aug. 31, 2022 — A man with a criminal past turned a gun on himself, but not before breaking into a home and exchanging gunfire.

Delbert “Trey” Middleton exchanged gunfire with four individuals inside the home, Sheriff Damon Devereaux confirmed.

Middleton, who knew the people inside the home, parked a vehicle nearly a mile away and approached wearing a mask. One of the residents of the home was an alleged victim of a kidnapping, which Middleton was charged with carrying out. Middleton is believed to have assaulted the victim during a lengthy car ride.

Devereaux says Middleton as on the run before Tuesday’s event as he did not charge an ankle monitor required by the court as part of his bond in a Cleveland County embezzlement case.

Last week, The State Attorney General’s Office charged Middleton with four counts of embezzlement in Cleveland County and was later released on a $200,000 bond with the tracking device.

“For the last 20 to 25 days nobody’s been able to monitor him or his whereabouts,” Deveraux said. “The family was scared to death that something like this was going to happen.”

According to investigators, Middleton, who owned 10 Roofing and Construction Inc., took money from four victims for projects he started but did not complete. Investigators also say Middleton did not pay his sub-contractors, which resulted in liens being filed against one victim’s property.

Updated at 9:45 a.m. — The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigations (OSBI) has been requested and is now investigating this case.

It is still unknown if the fatality was a result of a self-inflicted wound, or from one of the multiple residents inside the home.

It’s reported the suspect is a wanted fugitive from Cleveland County.

An abandoned vehicle was found near the residence which could be related to this case.

The Logan County Sheriff’s Office is on the scene of a shooting in western Logan County that has left one person dead.

The current, unknown situation all took place at a residence near W. Cooksey Road and N. Meridian Ave. in Cimarron City, which is south of Crescent.

According to radio traffic, gunfire could be heard at the residence and one person, who at one time was reportedly wearing a mask, was found dead outside the home.

Investigators are working to determine how the man died.

This all took place just after 7:15 a.m.

This is currently ongoing with more details to come as they become available.
