A person sits in the Logan County Jail after leading deputies on a pursuit down I-35 and into Edmond on Friday night.
A Logan County deputy attempted to stop a vehicle on Waterloo Road and I-35 for a traffic violation. After checking the license plate, the deputy learned the two-door truck had been entered as stolen.
Ignoring sirens and emergency lights, the driver took off south down the interstate at around 10 p.m. This is the last thing officers want to happen when they try and pull someone over, especially when the target vehicle is a truck as they can be a particularly dangerous threat to other drivers on the road. There are trucking lawyers available especially for those who do get involved in this kind of accident, but it is the police’s job to stop it from happening in the first place.
Deputies quickly requested assistance from the Edmond Police Department.
The pursuit continued south into Edmond, but came to an end after an Edmond officer performed a successful TVI (Tactical Vehicle Intervention) on the I-35 Frontage Rd. near Memorial Road.
“It’s unfortunate when people put the lives of innocent people in danger,” Lt. Marcus Williams with the Logan County Sheriff’s Office said in frustration toward the suspect.
The suspect, who was not identified at the scene, was arrested without incident and taken to a local hospital for further medical evaluation.
Williams, however, was appreciative of the efforts to get the reckless driver off the road.
“I’m proud of cooperative efforts of the Edmond Police Department and the Logan County Sheriff’s Office getting the subject in custody.”
The suspect was later transported to the Logan Detention Center and booked on various charges. Formal charges are expected to be filed on Monday afternoon.
