Mercy Clinic Primary Care-Edmond Waterloo has added another doctor to the team with the addition of Dr. Kristen Lewis. A board-certified physician, Dr. Lewis says that although practicing medicine is now her passion, it isn’t always something she dreamed of doing.
“I originally wanted to be a fashion designer,” Dr. Lewis said. “After my grandfather was diagnosed with cancer, I turned toward medicine.”
Dr. Lewis says her decision to enter into the medical field came from a feeling of confusion and helplessness she and her family felt while caring for her grandfather.
“It was so upsetting to watch my family go through all the stages of his disease,” she said. “I never felt any of us had a true understanding of the situation, and I realized there were tons of other people in similar situations.”
Specializing in both internal medicine and pediatrics, Dr. Lewis will help patients manage chronic conditions like diabetes and heart disease, while also treating children. A graduate of the University of Oklahoma and the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine, Dr. Lewis served as elected chief resident of the internal medicine program. She says her goal in joining Mercy is to expand primary care opportunities to those in the community.
“I want this to be a place for comfort and healing,” she said. “I want my patients and their family to be educated so they can make the best decisions for their health.”
In her spare time, Dr. Lewis stays busy as a mother of two young children. She and her husband also enjoy cheering on the Sooners and participating in church activities. Mercy Clinic Primary Care – Edmond Waterloo is located at 301 East Waterloo Road. For more information, call 405-715-2000.
