Cheryl Tartar, Lions Club President, reflected on the contribution by saying, “The Guthrie Lions Club is committed to service to our communities and the United Way is a wonderful conduit for our financial support to make a difference in Guthrie and throughout the county. Lions work hard every day to provide some type of support for those in need. Traditionally Lion Clubs around the world have focused on enhancing eye sight, however, we also contribute to a broader scope of community service like college scholarships and special drives like the United Way.  Our members feel strongly about making our communities better. We are pleased to have this opportunity to give in a way that positively impacts so many in our community.”

Don Hardin, United Way Campaign Chair noted, “The Guthrie Lions Club is the first of our Pacesetter Organizations to complete their campaign this year and with a significant increase over their contribution last year I am hopeful they will lead the way towards a hugely successful campaign.”

D.W. Converse is the Pacesetter Chairman this year and said, “The Pacesetter Campaign is the prelim to the United Way of Logan County 2013 Campaign. It is a way to kind of “jumpstart” the regular campaign, to get things going in a positive direction and to “set the pace”. Guthrie Lions Club has gotten us off to a fantastic start.”

The 10 Pacesetter Organizations in addition to the Guthrie Lions Club are: Oklahoma State Bank; God’s Food Bank; Environmental Management, Inc; Bank First; Vision Source; Logan Community Services; Mercy Hospital Logan County; F&M Bank; and Central Oklahoma Community Action Agency.

Jessica Eaves, United Way Coordinator for Logan County, noted, “The next Pacesetter “event” is a “hot dog and drink” offering this Friday, August 23 at the Oklahoma State Bank on South Division in Guthrie. They will be serving up hot dogs, chips, drink and all the fix’ens from 11 a.m. to 1p.m. Come have lunch, enjoy some fellowship and help support the United Way of Logan County.”
