A pair of local artists were the talk of a recent conference in Wyoming after their signature designs took home top titles.

Robin Wolf from Robin Wolf Pottery in Kingfisher won the “Best Artist-Accents” award at the 19th annual Western Design Conference, while Lisa Sorrell of Sorrell Custom Boots in Guthrie won the award for “Best Artist-Leather.”
The winners were chosen by a panel of five judges in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
Each received a $1,000 cash prize.
After a 20 year hiatus from clay, Wolf purchased a potter’s wheel and created Robin Wolf Pottery in 2005. She creates functional pottery that combines Mother Nature’s beauty shown in Oklahoma.
Her stoneware pottery is handcrafted with native Oklahoma wood and antlers and complimented with hand-hammered copper lids.
Sorrell learned to sew at 12-years-old and soon after, was sewing professionally. At 20, she answered an ad to “stitch boot tops.” Her journey to boot maker included several thousand dollars in tuition and a lengthy stint as an unpaid apprentice. Now her specific craft and flair for design has made her a master boot maker.
The Western Design Conference is known as the world’s preeminent exhibition of western furniture, fashion and accessories. The event was established nearly two decades ago to perpetuate the best traditions of western design and craft through education, economic opportunities and the exchange of ideas.
