Employees and managers were thrown for a surprise on Monday when they were told they no longer had a job and their store was closing.
Soon after closing and locking their doors, Hibbett Sports, located at 1515 S. Division St., hung brown paper in the store windows and placed signs on the front doors.
“Hibbett Sports Guthrie, Ok is CLOSED,” the sign read. The company offered customers to visit stores in Stillwater, Oklahoma City, Midwest City and Yukon.
Guthrie News Page reached out to Hibbett’s headquarters, in Birmingham, AL, via email on the store’s closing, but did not immediately hear back from them.

I’m not surprised. If I remember correctly, there’s been a list of issues being a low volume store with larger than expected maintenance expenses and several disputes with the property landlord that left a bad taste in the corporate folks’ mouths. It’s unfortunate to see another empty store front, but in a retail bloodbath, it’s not unexpected.
