It’s Labor Day Weekend, and the ENDUI Impaired Driving Prevention Teams will be looking for impaired drivers this weekend in Logan and Oklahoma Counties. The group says they’re ending the most dangerous one hundred days of travel (Memorial Weekend through Labor Day Weekend).
Members of the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office, Logan County Sheriff’s Office, Oklahoma City Police Department, Guthrie Police Department, Edmond Police Department and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol will be targeting impaired drivers at a sobriety checkpoint on the Oklahoma and Logan County line and while on patrol in all of Logan and Oklahoma counties.
According to ODOT, in Oklahoma on Labor Day Weekend last year, there were 45 impaired driving collisions in which 33 people were injured or possibly injured and four people lost their lives (this reporting is not considered complete). This is unacceptable and this weekend officers, deputies, and troopers are working to change this outcome.
The goal of the ENDUI Program is to discourage impaired driving altogether.
A spokesperson said the penalties for being arrested and convicted of driving under the influence are high, the costs to society are higher.
The percentage of impaired driving collisions is the highest on Saturday nights after 10 p.m.. until 3 a.m. Officers, deputies and troopers will be extremely vigilant this weekend during those hours.
