Local officers being recognized for National Police Week

NATPeace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15th falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.

Guthrie Police DepartmentThe Guthrie Police Department is not only recognizing the week, but are asking others to place blue ribbons on their car in memory of fallen officers and in honor of those serving.

Several restaurants in the community are feeding the local officers this week in their honor.

There are over 900,000 sworn law enforcement officers in the United States. Many of these officers spend a large part of their time patrolling our roadways. On average across the nation, one law enforcement officer is killed in the line of duty every 57 hours. The number one cause of officer fatalities in 2012 was traffic-related incidents.

    A big Blue Ribbon to Officer Anthony Gibbs for his service to Guthries Neighborhood Watch Associations and our young people.
