Logan County continues to be one of Oklahoma’s top growing counties

Logan County continues to be one of the top counties in the state when it comes to population growth, according to the latest figures by the U.S. Census Bureau.

Logan county, which includes Guthrie, added an estimated 458 residents in 2018 from 2017, according to the Census Bureau.

Growth in southern Logan County (unincorporated areas) continues to play a role in the county’s overall growth.

During the recent bond election for Guthrie Public Schools, Superintendent Dr. Mike Simpson stated majority of their students now reside outside of the city limits.

Logan County ranks third in population growth behind Canadian and McClain counties. The five fastest-growing counties in the state, include Canadian, McClain, Logan, Bryan and Oklahoma.

Canadian County has seen a change growth of 25 percent since 2010 followed by McClain at 16 percent and Logan with a 13 percent increase.

Of the 77 counties in Oklahoma, 48 lost population between 2017 and 2018.

In 2017, the population estimate for Guthrie is listed as 10,984. City-specific population growth numbers for 2018 is expected later this year.

The city limits of Guthrie made up 23 percent of Logan County’s population in 2017.
