Logan County Deputy Emergency Manager completes advanced weather radar training

Logan County Deputy Emergency Manager Shawn Pierce has successfully attended and completed OK-FIRST, an intensive weather radar interpretation program designed for public safety officials across Oklahoma.

The four-day, 32-hour course equips emergency managers and first responders with the skills needed to properly read and interpret weather radar data — a critical tool during severe weather events. Pierce joined other emergency managers and public safety officials from across the state for the training.

“We also want to thank James Hocker for being an excellent instructor and program manager for Oklahoma Mesonet OK-FIRST,” Logan County Emergency Manager Steven Haga said. “This program is invaluable for keeping our communities safe during Oklahoma’s often unpredictable weather.”

The OK-FIRST program, operated by the Oklahoma Mesonet, provides advanced meteorological training to assist local emergency managers in making informed decisions during severe weather situations, ultimately improving public safety across the state.
