State Representatives Lee Denney, Dale DeWitt, Jason Murphey and State Senator A.J. Griffin today thanked the Guthrie School board for weighing in on the Legislature’s pending action to repeal state issued Common Core Standards.
On Monday night, the Guthrie School Board approved a resolution calling for the repeal and asking local legislators to take action. The Guthrie district is thought to be the first in the state to pass a resolution in opposition to Common Core.
“It is possible to maintain high academic standards while preserving local control of our schools. We are fortunate in Guthrie that our school leaders are fully engaged,” explained Griffin.
Murphey noted that the Guthrie resolution reflects the recent ongoing actions by the Legislature and the Governor to repeal Common Core and believes the Guthrie Board will soon be joined by other school boards from across the state in calling for repeal.
“The Guthrie school board’s recommendation is well received and I believe the sentiment expressed within will be acted upon by both the Legislature and the Governor during this legislative session,” Murphey said.
