Logan County Sheriff’s Office warns of new phone scam targeting residents

The Logan County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a new phone scam in which callers impersonate local law enforcement officers and pressure victims into paying to remove a fictitious arrest warrant.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the scammers are pretending to be Capt. Evans and/or Lt. Sullivan. They call unsuspecting residents claiming there is a warrant for their arrest and that the only way to clear it is by making an immediate payment.

The scammers instruct victims to go to their bank, withdraw large sums of cash, and then deposit the money into a local Bitcoin machine—commonly found at gas stations and grocery stores. During the entire process, victims are told to remain on the phone, sometimes for hours, as the scammers maintain pressure and control.

Authorities emphasized that this is a scam, and no legitimate law enforcement agency will ever demand payment over the phone, request cryptocurrency transactions, or ask someone to stay on a call for hours.

Residents are urged to hang up immediately if they receive such a call and to report the incident to local authorities.
