Logan County Sheriff’s Office warns public of DMV text scam targeting Oklahomans

The Logan County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a new scam circulating via text message that falsely claims to be from the Oklahoma Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

The scam message, titled “Final Notice: Enforcement Begins July 15th,” threatens recipients with suspension of their vehicle registration and driving privileges unless they pay an alleged outstanding traffic ticket by July 26, 2025. The message also includes a suspicious link and outlines fake penalties such as:

  • Reporting the violation to the DMV database
  • Suspending vehicle registration
  • Suspending driving privileges for 30 days
  • A 40% toll booth service fee
  • Potential prosecution and credit score impact

The Sheriff’s Office urges the public not to click the link or reply to the message.

“This is a scam! Do not fall for it!” the Sheriff’s Office emphasized in an alert issued this week.

Anyone who receives the message is encouraged to delete it immediately and report it to local authorities. Residents are reminded that official government agencies like the DMV will not send payment demands through unsolicited text messages.
