UPDATE – The Heat Advisory has been extended until Monday, July 18, at 9:00 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Logan County and the majority of  Oklahoma counties.

The heat advisory will be in effect until 9 p.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2011. Temperatures, including the heat index, will average near 105 degrees.

Officials are asking citizens to take extra precautions when spending time outside, wear light and loose-fitting clothing along with drinking plenty of water.

Meteorologists report that the cumulative effect of several days with above normal temperatures have increased the concerns for heat related illnesses.

There is a chance for isolated thunderstorms, but they are only expected to bring temporary relief to the high temperatures. Any rain shower will  increase the humidity levels and bring higher temperatures with it.
