Logan County upgrading website, adding public notification system

In the coming months, the offices of Logan County will soon see a much-improved website, along with the addition of emergency notifications and alerts for citizens.

On Monday, the Logan County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) voted 2-1 to enter into a contract with CivicPlus, based out of Manhattan, KS, for development and annual service for www.LoganCountyOk.com.

CivicPlus, who provides services for several municipalities and counties, including City of Guthrie, is expected to have the fresh site rolled out by early summer.

The cost of the development, training and the first two months of service is $14,692. The annual cost will be $2,425 and is subjected to no more than five percent increase for five years.

“I think we need a new website, but I’m against this whole thing,” District 3 Commissioner Monty Piearcy said. “I can’t support something we only got one price on. Just seems awfully high to me.”

The contract was through the GSA (General Services Administration) Schedule Contract and did not require to go out for bid.

In a separate action, commissioners approved the addition of implementing a mass notification system through CivicPlus with a 3-0 vote.

Sheriff Damon Devereaux shared the many features of the program, including the ability to send notifications to citizens for a variety of possible events, including road closures, road construction, courthouse closings, criminal activity, wildfires and water line breaks.

The notifications, which is a free opt-in feature for citizens, can be sent out by text messages, email, land lines, social media and on the upcoming website.

The Sheriff says notifications can be sent out to all the citizens in the county at one time, or as small as a tenth of a mile for those affected in a smaller area.

The one-year cost is $9,875 and will be re-evaluated next year by the BOCC.
