Lucy McKinley was named Guthrie Public Schools’ Student of the Month for the month of October. She was nominated by her teacher Dixie Shaffer.
Lucy, a first-grade student at Charter Oak Elementary, was nominated for her kindness.
She enjoys participating in dance, making bracelets, and reading.
Mrs. Shaffer shared a recent story when Lucy made bracelets for every student in the classroom. She overheard a student say they had broken their bracelet. Lucy simply responded, “don’t worry, I’ll make you a new one.”
The teacher adds that Lucy goes out of her way to be kind to others.
“She always makes sure to include other students in whatever she is doing. She has a giver’s heart and would rather she do without than someone else.”
The district-wide student of the month program is sponsored locally by Foundation Insurance.
Blake Wimsey with Foundation Insurance presented Lucy with a $50 Walmart gift card.
This is the fifth year of the program that honors students for their character traits.
