Alert Logan County deputies spotted a man trying to break into a vehicle early Sunday morning resulting in a car pursuit that covered three counties.

20121104-202142.jpgAt around 4:30 a.m. deputies noticed a vehicle, which was posted for sale at an un-developed corner at Waterloo and Bryant where individuals park vehicles for sale, had its flashers on and noticed an adult male standing next to the vehicle.

The man than then ran to a 2001 Dodge pick-up truck and fled the scene. Turns out the vehicle was reported stolen out of Midwest City on Sept. 21. and the tag was stolen overnight also in Midwest City.

Deputies quickly caught up the truck and the pursuit began.

With speeds reaching over 80 mph, the pursuit crossed into Oklahoma County, into Canadian County, and ending in Piedmont. However, the suspect then took off on foot and was found hiding next to a fence in the residential neighborhood.

Deputies arrested Michael William McCaulla Jr., 31, of Midwest City. He now faces charges of attempted burglary, aggravated alluding police, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and possession of stolen property.

There were no injuries, and no property was damaged during the pursuit.

Captain Richard Stephens says the make-shift car lot has led to a number of auto burglaries, and stolen vehicles. Stephens says it’s not illegal to park the vehicle and post it for sale, but suggests people not leave them over night.
