A Guthrie resident was mowing his front yard Sunday evening when a pick up truck all of a sudden came up on the sidewalk striking him and his mower. If you’ve been involved in a similar incident then contact an attorney such as Frost Law Group, LLC for a consultation, as you may be entitled to compensation.
An older, green model Chevrolet truck was traveling west on Noble at around 5:23 p.m. when for some unknown reason jumped the curve in the 1300 block striking the pedestrian and clipping two trees.
Witnesses tell Guthrie News Page that after the impact, the truck continued on the sidewalk before turning around into oncoming traffic on Noble.
By the time the driver had come to a complete stop, he had parked the truck facing east on the curve, at a slant, with majority of the vehicle still in the road. Traffic was diverted around the vehicle before being towed.
Debris from the truck’s window and headlight, along with tire marks, could be seen on the sidewalk and grass.
It is unknown if the driver had been drinking, or was intoxicated, but police spotted a smashed beer can in the bed of the truck. He was transported to a local hospital after complaining of back pain.
The pedestrian, who was mowing, was struck in the leg by the trucks bumper. He was seen limping, but was alert and refused treatment at the scene. However, a nearby homeowner says he will go to a hospital to be checked out. Who knew that gardening could be such a dangerous occupation? Luckily their are experts such as this landscaping Christiansburg company that will take the risk for you.
The speed limit out there needs to be lowered and enforced.
Lowered from 35mph? Why?
How about Not drinking and driving I am the mother of the individual mowing his yard. You wouldn’t expect to be Mowed down while mowing your yard. My son did receive injuries thank God he wasn’t killed.
So sorry about your son Michelle – glad he is OK. We live at 1611 W. Noble. Our car has been hit turning into our driveway. I have seen at least 3 times when vehicles have ended up in yards, hitting trees etc. We must back out of our driveway, most often heading east. Traffic speeds down the hill coming into town from the west. Across the street, little kids play in the front yard.
W. Noble is a residential street with driveways. It is simply highway 33 to ODOT. They’re going to build a 4 lane bridge to replace the viaduct. They will then want to 4 lane all of W. Noble. Exact opposite of good national trends to reduce/slow traffic down in metro areas.
West Noble is extremely congested especially during school traffic. ODOT’s plan is to replace the viaduct which is beyond repair and the new bridge will have four lanes. The speed limit is also 35 mph on the east side of town on Noble. The solution is for people to drive on the street and not up on people’s lawns.
Christy’s solution is for what people shouldn’t do. My solution is for what people cannot do.
To control where people shouldn’t drive, we need some sort of taller traffic barrier curb or wall that makes it much harder for vehicles to simply jump it and plow thriugh our front yards. Our “solution” needs to be something we can request and control.
Look people, someone about got killed mowing their front lawn. We all have front lawns and we all need to mow. All I’ve heard so far here is what others should or shouldn’t do. Those are not realistic solutions. What are we going to do about it? Nothing?
If the State builds and maintains a State Highway through a neighborhood, the State needs to be held responsible to do that so people are not risking their lives going out into their front yards or walking down the sidewalks.
