A Saturday night shooting on Elm Street led to a tense standoff between a man and Guthrie police officers before he eventually surrendered.
The Guthrie Police Department responded to a shots-fired call at a home on Elm Street, located between Springer Avenue and Vilas Avenue. Upon arrival, officers learned that a husband had shot his wife at their home while children were present.
Authorities found the suspect sitting on a concrete slab across the street from the residence, wearing a blue shirt and holding a firearm.
Meanwhile, officers worked to reach the wounded woman and transport her to safety. After several minutes, she was placed in an ambulance and rushed by Guthrie EMS to Logan County Mercy Hospital. From there, she was airlifted to an Oklahoma City hospital for further treatment. Her condition remains unknown.
As law enforcement and family members negotiated with the suspect, he eventually surrendered peacefully 45 minutes later. Officers handcuffed him and placed him in a police cruiser.
Witnesses reported hearing at least five gunshots, though the exact number of times the woman was struck has not been confirmed. The children inside the home were unharmed and were immediately taken to a neighbor’s house before being reunited with family members.
After the man was taken into custody, several family members thanked the police officers for handling the situation and preventing it from escalating further.
Guthrie police continue to investigate the incident, gathering information to determine what led to the shooting.
