Teen stranded for hours after vehicle flips and catches fire

A driver was mediflighted to a Oklahoma City hospital Saturday morning after he was found several hours later lying in a field next to a charred vehicle.

Accident 01242015A nearby farmer discovered the driver in a field near the intersection of May Ave. and Camp Rd at around 9 a.m. Saturday in Logan County. The accident was said to have happen 14 hours before at around 6:30 p.m. Friday.

The driver was headed south on May when he lost control of the vehicle causing it to flip three times and catching fire. The driver was able to climb out of the vehicle.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has not released a name of the victim, but family members say Clayton Gunter, 17,  was the driver. They go on to say his injuries included a compressed spine and three shattered vertebrates in his neck.

Gunter was flown to OU Medical Center. According to family members, he had surgery on Sunday and is expected back in the operating room on Monday.

Gunter remains in the intensive care unit.
