Since 1955, Congress has set aside September 17-23 annually to be observed as Constitution Week. September 17 of this year marks the 229th Anniversary of the drafting of the U.S. Constitution. Mayor Steve Gentling, alongside members of the Daughters of the American Revolution, honored the week with a proclamation.
“Constitution Week is the perfect opportunity to read and study this great document which is the safeguard of our American liberties,” a DAR member said.
The Mayor read and signed the proclamation inside the City Hall Council Chambers and declared September 17-23, 2016, as Constitution Week in Guthrie.
DAR has served America for 126 years and is known as the largest women’s patriotic organization in the world with over 175,000 members with approximately 3,000 chapters in 50 states and 13 foreign countries.
