Guthrie Public Schools recognized their September Support and Certified Employees of the Month at Monday night’s Board of Education meeting.
Melissa White was selected as the Support Employee of the Month and Kalie Welch the Certified Employee of the month.
Melissa has helped teachers with Google Classroom to assist teachers with training videos and created their site. She does all that without being required to do so.
“Melissa has gone above and beyond to help prepare our students for distance learning,” Central Elementary Dani Watson said in her nominating letter of Melissa, who is a paraprofessional at the school.
“She has been a tremendous asset to several of the teachers in our building when it comes to technology and distance learning,” Watson added.
Jo Ewy, an interventionist at Charter Oak Elementary, nominated teacher Kalie Welch.
“Despite the challenges of a new school year during a pandemic, Mrs. Welch gives freely of her time to help others,” Ewy said.
Ewy said during difficult times to cover bus duties, Kalie jumped in and started to help share the duties.
“She does this every single day now, despite having her own late bus duties,” Ewy said. “I appreciate her positivity and giving spirit so very much.”
The Guthrie Lions Club presented a plaque to the recipients and Sonic at I-35 and Highway 33 donated a $25 Sonic gift card.
